I read the news. I listen to the radio,
With my own eyes I see how the number of refugees grows
It’s on TV, in the paper, online,
So I know the world knows.
Barefoot kids are begging in the street.
Running through traffic, risking their lives for a dollar or two
The BBC made a video reportage about them
So I know the world saw them too.
Innocents die in a chemical attack
Online videos of the deceased or the dying, you cannot tell,
have over a million hits on Youtube
So I know the world watched it as well.
A young boy survived
He talks about losing his family and watching people die
Why did he tell his story for the camera?
So the world could watch him cry?
What is being done to stop this?
World leaders ‘strongly condemn’ and ‘will make a call’
We report, photograph, blog, cry for help
So the world knows. Is that all?

Hoi Marlies,
Ja, het moet je erg aangrijpen wat er allemaal om je heen gebeurt.
Het grijpt ons hier in Nederland en hier thuis ook erg aan. Er gaan geluiden dat het misschien in scene gezet is. Maar vanmiddag hoorde ik op de radio dat daar uiteindelijk toch weinig op wijst.
Het is allemaal te gruwelijk voor woorden wat er allemaal gebeurt. Jij hebt er mooie woorden voor gevonden, dat is mooi en dat is goed.
We denken ook aan jou.

Het is vreselijk wat er gebeurt met mensen; dat we het allemaal zien en niets (kunnen) ondernemen.
Dat frustreert enorm.
Mooi zoals jij die onmacht en frustratie verwoord.

HI Marlies,
You are so right!! These attrocities to men, women and children should have repercussions. We should not close our eyes and act as if it has not happened. The shocking images show us in what kind of conflict it has developed itself into. My thoughts are for those who lost loved ones. And for those who have been able to survive this attack. Seeing lines of dead and dying adults in hospitals is horrible. The sight of lines of dead and dying children something out of this world. How can people do this to other people! And not for the first time in history!! People do not seem to learn from the past.
My first thoughts were: "What kind of barbarian pushed the button. What kind of beast gave the green light for such a massacre". Hopefully the person will be found and made accountable. As well as those in higher postions who ordered the attack. May those who lost their lives rest in peace. A peace which they should have found on earth.
